WILEY AND THE HAIRY MAN

TITLE: WILEY AND THE HAIRY MAN

Authors: Retold by Judy Sierra and illustrated by Brian Pinkney.

Word Count: 1871-words

Summary:  A story about a boy who outwitted a monster who wanted to capture him.  His mother assisted him and I feel like it had the elements of “David and Goliath” with an African Folktale twist.  I enjoyed reading it.

Personal Thought:

This book is very long for a picture book. I would say it is an early reader just by the word count alone. But the book and the story was great. There are many great elements here. The independence of Wiley as a boy. The role the mother played in guiding him to victory. This is great book for the elementary. It is great to talk about what is real.  Great for Geography when we want to compare other states to what we are learning more and more about Louisiana
